How Personal Assistants join ilarna
We believe safety comes from clear checks, transparency, and informed choice. Before appearing on the ilarna platform, Personal Assistants complete the following steps.
1. Identity and right-to-work checks
All applicants complete secure identity checks and provide evidence of their right to live and work in the UK. This is a basic requirement for joining the platform.
2. Enhanced DBS check
ilarna Personal Assistants must hold a current Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate. This helps confirm their suitability to work in one-to-one home settings.
3. Introductory conversation
Applicants take part in a video conversation with the ilarna team. This isn’t about assessing care delivery, but about understanding communication style, experience, and how they approach working respectfully in people’s homes.
4. References and experience
Where relevant, references and stated experience are reviewed so profiles accurately reflect the type of support an ilarna Personal Assistant is offering.

While ilarna carries out these checks, the final decision always sits with you.
Clear profiles
Each ilarna Personal Assistant has a detailed profile showing their background, experience, and interests, often including a short video introduction.
A first conversation
Before starting, we encourage a relaxed introductory chat (by video or in person). This gives you space to see whether the relationship feels comfortable and right for your home.
Private, secure messaging
All early communication can happen through the ilarna platform, keeping personal contact details private until you’re ready to move forward.
Transparency through the ilarna platform
Once support begins, the platform offers tools designed to keep things clear and visible — without directing or supervising the work itself.
Visit notes
ilarna Personal Assistants may share brief notes after visits, if you choose, helping you and your family stay informed about everyday routines.
Secure payments
Payments are handled through the platform, so you don’t need to manage cash or share bank details directly.
Community feedback
Reviews and feedback from other users help provide additional context when choosing who to work with.
